About mold

What is mold?

Mold is a type of fungus that grows in multicellular structures called hyphae. It reproduces by creating spores, which are tiny, lightweight particles that can be carried through the air.

What does mold need to grow?

Mold needs three things to grow: moisture, a lack of airflow, and something organic to feed on.

Why is mold a concern?

Mold can release spores and mycotoxins that, when inhaled or when they come into contact with skin, can cause health issues such as allergies, respiratory problems and irritation.

Where does mold commonly grow?

Mold thrives in damp and humid environments. Common areas for mold growth include bathrooms, HVAC closets, attics, and places with water leaks or poor ventilation.

How does mold affect indoor air quality?

Mold spores can become airborne and contribute to poor indoor air quality. Inhaling these spores can lead to various health problems, especially for people with allergies or respiratory conditions.

How can mold growth be prevented?

Preventing mold involves controlling moisture levels. This includes promptly fixing leaks, improving ventilation, using dehumidifiers and ensuring proper insulation.

What is black mold, and is it more dangerous than other molds?

“Black mold” usually refers to Stachybotrys chartarum. While it can produce mycotoxins, all molds have the potential to cause health issues. The focus should be on preventing and addressing mold growth, regardless of the species.

Inspections and testing

What does a mold inspection include?

Air quality samples, surface swab samples, moisture and humidity analysis, and a certified lab report with mold species and spore counts for each room or area tested.

Is air testing part of a mold inspection?

Yes. Every mold inspection includes air quality samples, surface swabs, moisture and humidity analysis, and a certified lab report.

Can you test for black mold?

Yes. Surface swabs show the exact mold types present, including any toxic species.

Do you test attics?

Only when there’s a reason to, like a roof leak that keeps the attic wet. Attics aren’t air-conditioned, so we don’t take air samples there, but we can swab areas with ongoing moisture.

Do you test for VOCs?

Yes. Along with mold and microbial testing, we offer VOC (volatile organic compound) testing.

What does the lab report show?

Mold species and spore counts for each room or area tested.

What if the test doesn’t find mold?

Then you have a certified lab report that says so, and peace of mind.

Do you inspect commercial buildings too?

Yes. We inspect homes and commercial buildings across Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Martin and St. Lucie counties.

04

Mold sampling

What is mold sampling?

Mold sampling involves collecting samples from surfaces and the air in an indoor environment to assess the presence and concentration of mold spores.

Why is mold sampling done?

Mold sampling helps identify the types and levels of mold present in a space, which helps assess the extent of contamination and guides the right remediation and sanitization work.

What are the methods of mold sampling?

There are different methods, including air sampling (collecting airborne spores), surface sampling (swabbing or tape-lifting from surfaces) and bulk sampling (collecting pieces of materials with visible mold growth).

What do mold samples reveal?

Mold samples can reveal the types of mold present and their concentration, and can help identify the source of the moisture problem causing the mold growth.

05

Remediation and clearance

Do you remove mold?

We focus on inspection and testing. If we find mold, we give you a remediation protocol, refer you to licensed, reputable remediation companies, and come back for clearance testing when the work is done.

What is clearance testing?

Testing after remediation to verify the job is complete.

Can you test after another company did the remediation?

Yes. Call or text 561-208-8585 to set up clearance testing.

06

Payment and insurance

Can you bill my insurance?

Payment is due at the time of testing. We can direct bill your insurance company if the claim has been pre-approved.
